Biography
Nick hales from South Dakota.
He grew up on a farm in the southeastern part of the state near the Missouri river. After graduating from high school
he attended the University
of South Dakota. He
would go on to graduate from the university with a bachelor’s degree in
mathematics education. While there he received his first exposure to
fencing. His instructor was Brian Bagley. He was involved with the
fencing group there for two years.
After graduating from the university he took a job teaching mathematics at Zion-Benton Township High School
where he continues to teach. He and his wife moved to Kenosha and in 2003 began to take fencing
lessons at the YMCA. In 2004 he took over the fencing program
there. In the summer of 2005 he met with Alexis LaJoie
of the Classical Fencing Society Scoula de Armes (CFSSDA). Nick has been a student there since
the winter of 2006 and continues to receive instruction from Alexis LaJoie. In the summer of 2006 he sought and received
accreditation as a fencing instructor from the United States Fencing Coaches
Association under the tutelage of Maitre de Armes
Anthony Gillham.
